Proofing tools

Get the job done reliably, consistently, and quickly

Having the right tools to check the artwork content with reference to regulatory and brand requirements makes a big difference in productivity. Its hard to keep up with changing regulations and requirements, and having a system do these checks is much more efficient.

Personalized Checklists

Every user sees a checklist which acts as a ready reckoner for checking the artwork. The checklist is different for each person depending on the department. E.g. a user from Marketing would have a different checklist from a person in the Regulatory team. The user can mark a  Yes/No/NA for each checklist item and also put an optional comment against it (especially if they marked it as ‘No’). Checklist items of other users are visible but cannot be edited. However, commenting on another person’s checklist is allowed

Annotation Tools

This is similar to the comment and mark-up tools in Adobe Acrobat. Sticky notes, highlights, text notes, strikethroughs, shapes, arrows, etc. are available for users to mark up the artwork. The annotation panel collates and records all the comments along with the name and time stamp. Users can view comments made by other users and reply to them. However, they cannot edit or delete them

Overprint Preview and Transparency Support

The artwork viewer automatically shows users how overprint behavior will appear in a print condition. It can help detect critical flaws in the artwork and can save time and money without making any type of demands on your production workflow

Color & Layer Separation and Ink Coverage

You can preview separation plates and ink coverage to ensure that the printed artwork meets your requirements. Previewing separations on your monitor can help you detect problems without the expense of printing separations. Too much ink can saturate paper and cause drying problems or change the expected color characteristics of the document.

Total Area Coverage specifies the total percentage of all inks used. You can view all of the inks required in order to print the current PDF. The list will include the four basic process plates (cyan, yellow, magenta, and black) and any spot colors (Pantone colors) used in the artwork. By checking and unchecking the colors you can preview what the artwork would look like if that color is either removed or included

Font Analysis

All text in the artwork is extracted and organized by font size and font names. The system automatically shows the font details when you move your mouse over a character or word in the artwork. This information is important to satisfy some regulatory requirements with respect to font size. Clicking on a font size highlights all text with the same font size in the artwork

Barcode Validation and Verification

ManageArtworks can identify all 1D (EAN, UPC, Pharmacode, etc.) and 2D (QR code, etc.) barcodes. It checks the PDF artwork for one or more barcodes and verifies them. Verification is measuring and grading the quality of a printed barcode according to international ISO/IEC standards. Based on the verification grade (A to F), the user can take a call if the barcode needs to be changed or not. Barcodes with low grade will not scan at the point of sale even though the barcode number is correct

Braille Validation

PharmaBraille is used for medical packaging and adopted in the EU.  ManageArtworks can check artwork PDF file for presence of PharmaBraille and decode them based on the language. The dot dimensions are also measured and shown to the user

Image Compare (Pixel Compare)

The easiest way to compare artworks to see the differences is to do an Image compare in ManageArtworks. This automatically aligns the artworks, ignores the slug area and any legends (headers and footers), to get a perfect comparison of just the artwork portion. ... The differences are listed and highlighted on the artworks. Clicking on each difference shows the corresponding regions side-by-side. There is also a flicker mode to toggle between the two aligned artworks to see the differences visually. A compare report can be generated with all the identified differences. Image compare is a pixel-to-pixel compare and will highlight all differences including ones in text, images, barcodes, color, etc

Text Compare

Similar to the image compare, the text compare will check all the text in the two artworks and highlight areas where there are differences. It categorizes the text differences into text missing or added, change in text, font differences and case differences. Text compare is possible only when there is live searchable text in the artwork. Curved files do not have text in them and cannot be compared. ...

There are multiple types of text compare supported by ManageArtworks:
  1. Artwork Copy (Excel, Word, PDF) vs. Artwork PDF
  2. Artwork PDF vs. Artwork PDF (labels, cartons, etc.)
  3. Pharma inserts PDF vs Pharma inserts PDF
  4. Pharma inserts Word vs Pharma inserts PDF
  5. Pharma QRD format vs. Artwork PDF
